What does a birth doula actually do, and how can I help you feel confident going into labor?

Whether this is your first birth or your third, the idea of labor can bring up a mix of excitement, anxiety, and a million questions. My role as your birth doula is to walk alongside you through it all, offering steady, non-judgmental support while holding space for your choices, emotions, and experiences.

This isn’t just about breathing techniques (although we’ll cover those too). It’s about helping you feel grounded, safe, and seen before, during, and immediately after birth.

What You Can Expect from Me

Before Labor – Preparing Together

  • One-on-one prenatal visit(s) to talk through your preferences, fears, and hopes

  • Education on the stages of labor, birth physiology, and what to expect at your chosen place of birth

  • Tips to involve your partner/support person so they feel confident too

  • Tools for decision-making and building your birth plan (even if your plan is just to go with the flow)

During Labor – Steady Support in Every Contraction

I offer continuous support through:

  • Position changes to support labor progression and comfort

  • Counter-pressure, massage, and hands-on techniques for pain relief

  • Breathing, focus, and mindfulness strategies

  • Advocating for your voice in the room and helping you understand what’s being offered or suggested

  • Tag-teaming with your partner so they can take a break or be present without the pressure of doing everything right

A calm energy can help ease anxiety when the intensity kicks in. That’s what I’m there for: to be a steady presence in the middle of big, powerful moments.

What Makes My Support Unique

With a nursing background, I bring an added layer of understanding to the birth space. I can:

  • Help translate medical language so you feel informed, not overwhelmed

  • Recognize when something might be veering off course, and stay alert while remaining grounded

  • Communicate effectively with your birth team while staying in the non-clinical, supportive doula role

I don’t give medical advice or perform clinical tasks as a Doula, but I do bring a deeper level of awareness and advocacy when needed.

After Birth – That First Golden Hour

  • Help with initial bonding and skin-to-skin

  • Support with the first latch (if you're breastfeeding)

  • Ensure you feel safe and comfortable before I step out

  • Offer a gentle recap or processing session if desired

A Note About My Approach

I’m not here to coach you into one “right” way to give birth. I’m here to support your choices, meet you with calm and humor when needed, and be the person in the room who’s always on your team.
